Prof. Kjiro Ivanovski, PhD – dean at the Faculty of Dentistry


Kjiro Ivanovski, PhD was born on November 3, 1960 in Zeleznec, Macedonia. He finished primary school in Serbia and secondary school (gymnasium) in Skopje in 1979. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry – Skopje in 1986. In 1994, he became a specialist in oral cavity and periodontal diseases.
In 1993, at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje, he acquired his master’s degree when he defended his master’s thesis titled “Immunological status in patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis” and thus became a Master of Dentistry. In 2000, at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje, he defended his doctoral thesis titled “Etiopathogenetic contribution of the psychological stress to the affection of the oral mucous membrane” and thus became a Doctor of Dentistry.
His first employment was in 1989 at the Clinic for oral and periodontal diseases, whereas in 1992, he was elected Staff Assistant at the Department of Oral and Periodontal Diseases at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje. Prof. Ivanovski, PhD was elected Assistant in 1995 and was reelected the same title in 1998. In 2004, he was elected Research Associate and in 2006 – Assistant Professor. Professor Ivanovski, PhD was elected Associate Professor in 2009 and then, Professor in 2014.
In 2001, he attended a two-month residency training in the domain of surgical treatment of periodontal diseases at the Periodontology and oral medicine clinic at the Faculty of Dentistry in Belgrade, Serbia with Prof. Bozidar Dimitrijevikj, PhD.
Among other professional and scientific challenges, Prof. Ivanovski, PhD, ranks among the professionals who work on scientific research for the treatment of periodontal diseases. In the treatment of diseases in the oral medicine field, Prof. Ivanovski, PhD applies the contemporary holistic biopsychosocial approach. However, what most distinguishes Prof. Ivanovski, PhD is his long-standing scientific interest in the application of biochemistry in dentistry. Namely, he administered a new subject at the Faculty of Dentistry called oral biochemistry. His domain of interest is also, increased utilization of the saliva as a diagnostic medium, not only for the oral diseases but also for the general, systemic diseases. He was the vice president of the Association of specialists in periodontal and oral diseases, vice president of the Macedonian Dental Society and vice-dean at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje. He is the author and co-author of more than 170 scientific studies, textbooks, study guides and books.

Prof. Silvana Georgieva, PhD – vice-dean for science

Prof. Silvana Georgieva, PhD is Associate Professor at the Department of Oral Cavity and Periodontal Diseases at the Faculty of Dentistry, “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje.

She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in 1985. In 1992, she defended her master’s thesis titled “Contribution to the etiology of glossopyrosis” at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje and thus acquired the title Master of Dentistry. In 1994, she became an oral cavity and periodontal diseases specialist.

Prof. Silvana Georgieva, PhD defended her doctoral thesis titled “Biochemical and cytological analysis of glossopyrosis in patients with hypochromic anemia” at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje in 2002 and acquired the title Doctor of Dentistry.

Her first employment was at the Clinic for oral cavity and periodontal diseases at BOAL (Basic Organization of Associated Labor) Dental Clinics in 1989. She was elected Staff Assistant at the Department of Oral Cavity and Periodontal Diseases at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje in 1992. In 1994, she was elected Assistant at the same Department and in 1998 and 2002, she was reelected Assistant. In 2008, she acquired the title Elected Assistant Professor at the Department of Oral Cavity and Periodontal Diseases at the Faculty of Dentistry. In 2013, she was elected Associate Professor and in 2018 – Professor.

Prof. Silvana Georgieva, PhD directs her professional and scientific enhancement towards the problematics in the field of oral pathology, periodontology and focal infections. In 2008, she was elected executive at the Clinic for oral cavity and periodontal diseases at the Public Health Organization Dental Clinical Center “St. Pantelejmon” in Skopje. She held this position until 2013. Prof. Silvana Georgieva, PhD is the author of more than 120 professional and scientific theses, textbooks and books.


Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD – vice-dean for international collaboration

Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD is a professor at the Department of Tooth Pathology and Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.

Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD was born on September 5, 1964 in Skopje. She graduated from the secondary medical school “Dr. Pance Karagjozov” in 1982/1983. In 1988, she graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje with a 9.42 GPA.

In 1994, Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD defended her master’s thesis titled “Correlation between the bacteriological findings in the carious mass, the saliva and the primary bacterial implantation on clinically healthy enamel surface” at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje and thus acquired the title Master of Dentistry. In 1995, she became a specialist in tooth pathology and endodontics.

Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD defended her doctoral thesis titled “The role of Streptococcus Mutans and Lactobacillus in etiopathogenesis of dental caries” at the Faculty of Dentistry in 2002 and thus acquired the title Doctor of Dentistry.

Her first job position was a professional collaborator at the Clinic for tooth pathology and endodontics at BOAL (Basic Organization of Associated Labor) Dental Clinics in Skopje in 1990. In 1993, Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD was elected Staff Assistant at the Department of Tooth Pathology and Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje. In 1996, she was elected Assistant at the same Department and in 2000, she was reelected Assistant. In 2004, she was elected Scientific Collaborator at the Department of Tooth Pathology and Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry in Skopje. In 2008, she acquired the title Elected Assistant Professor, whereas in 2011 she became Assistant Professor at the same Department. In 2013, she was elected Associate Professor and in 2018, she became Professor.

In 2004, she attended a two-month residency training in the domain of Restorative dentistry with Prof. A. Karanika – Kouma, PhD at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD directs her professional and scientific enhancings towards the problematics in the field of restorative dentistry, endodontics and aesthetic restorations. Her particular field of interest is the application of the contemporary composite materials for aesthetic restorations. Additionally, her subject of scientific and applicable interest is the development of ergonomics in dentistry.

Over the last period, Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD was a member (secretary) of the Executive board of the Association of specialists in tooth pathology and endodontics at the Macedonian Dental Society and later she became the president of the same Association. Also, she was the president of the Macedonian Dental Society from 2010 to 2018. From 2013 to 2017 she was the executive of the Department of Tooth Pathology and Endodontics.

Prof. Sonja Apostolska, PhD is the author of more than 150 scientific and professional theses, two textbooks and three monographs. She is a participant and manager of a number of national and international projects.
