Professional Dental Technicians, first-cycle professional studies.

  1. Duration of Studies

The duration of the studies is three (3) years, or six (6) semesters.

  1. Admission Requirements

The requirements and procedure for student enrolment in the study programme are in accordance with the Law on Higher Education, the Statute of the University, and the Call for Enrolment of Students in first-cycle study programmes at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.

  1. Specification of Generic and Specific Competences Acquired by the Student upon Completion of the Studies and Employment Opportunities
  2. A) Generic Competences

Upon completion of the studies, the student will acquire the following generic competences:

  • the ability to apply knowledge in a manner that demonstrates a professional approach to work and to the profession of professional dental technician, as well as the ability to identify, analyse and solve problems within a multidisciplinary team;
  • the ability to evaluate theoretical and practical issues, provide explanations for the underlying reasons, and select an appropriate solution in cooperation with a Doctor of Dental Medicine and dental specialists from all fields of dentistry;
  • the ability to communicate and discuss information, ideas, problems and solutions with both professional and non-professional audiences when the decision-making criteria and the scope of the task are clearly defined.
  1. B) Specific Competences

Upon completion of the studies, the student will acquire the following specific competences:

  • knowledge of the structure and function of the teeth, oral cavity, jaws and other oral tissues, both healthy and diseased, as well as their relation to the general health condition and the physical and social condition of the patient;
  • knowledge of the basic biomedical sciences, as well as the anatomical, morphological and functional characteristics of the stomatognathic system;
  • knowledge of the physiological and biochemical processes in the oral cavity, functional occlusion and dentofacial irregularities;
  • knowledge and use of dental equipment and instruments used in the dental laboratory and in dentistry, including their disinfection and sterilization, as well as their therapeutic application in dentistry;
  • the ability to demonstrate knowledge of how to solve problems, how to work with a team of highly educated professionals, and how to manage a team involved in healthcare;
  • the ability to apply theoretical principles and practical skills in recognizing the anatomical, morphological and functional characteristics of the stomatognathic system;
  • knowledge and application of the most advanced bio-dental materials and medicaments used in the dental laboratory and in dentistry;
  • independent fabrication of removable prosthetic restorations;
  • independent fabrication of fixed prosthetic restorations;
  • independent fabrication of active removable and functional orthodontic appliances;
  • independent fabrication of fixed intraoral and extraoral orthodontic appliances;
  • the ability to recognize, connect and interpret physiological and biochemical processes, and to decide which instruments and equipment should be used;
  • the ability to participate in the diagnosis and treatment of dentofacial anomalies and orthodontic-maxillofacial procedures;
  • the ability to work efficiently as a team member, demonstrating reliability, unobtrusive behaviour, critical thinking, and understanding and respect for cultural differences;
  • readiness for continuous education in different fields of dentistry and the ability to take initiative in acquiring knowledge and learning with a high degree of independence.
  1. C) Employment Opportunities

Graduates are qualified for the following employment opportunities:

  • work in a public healthcare institution;
  • independent work in a private healthcare institution;
  • work in companies engaged in the procurement, distribution and sale of dental materials, dental equipment and instruments.
