The integrated study programme in Dental Medicine aims to educate competent and highly qualified Doctors of Dental Medicine who are prepared to follow and apply contemporary achievements in dental science and clinical practice. The programme enables students to identify scientific and professional challenges, think critically, analyse results, and develop into responsible professionals with a strong ethical and value-based approach to patient care.
By combining theoretical knowledge, practical training and clinical experience, the programme prepares students for the implementation of preventive and therapeutic procedures in dentistry. Special emphasis is placed on the application of modern technologies, evidence-based practice and contemporary biotechnological approaches in dental medicine. Graduates are expected to be fully prepared to respond to the needs of the healthcare system and the labour market in the country and beyond.
The study programme is organized as an integrated first- and second-cycle programme and lasts 12 semesters. Upon successful completion of all courses and defence of the diploma thesis, students acquire a total of 360 ECTS credits.
Teaching is carried out at the preclinical departments and clinics within the Public Health Institution University Dental Clinical Centre “St. Pantelejmon” and the Public Health Institution University Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery. Certain courses are also delivered in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the “Blazhe Koneski” Faculty of Philology, and the Faculty of Physical Education, Sport and Health.
During their studies, students attend compulsory core courses, including basic, medical-biological and general medical subjects, as well as preclinical and clinical dental subjects. In addition, students choose elective courses from the list offered throughout the programme. The curriculum includes 25 elective courses, of which students select a total of 10.
Due to the specific nature of clinical skills training, students are required to complete summer practice after the fourth and fifth years of study. Each summer practice lasts three weeks, or 15 working days. The practice after the fourth year is carried out with specialists in dental diseases and oral surgery, while the practice after the fifth year is carried out with specialists in oral medicine and periodontology, and prosthodontics. Completion of summer practice is a prerequisite for enrolment in the following year of study.
Students progress through the programme by regularly attending lectures, practical classes and other forms of teaching, and by passing examinations in accordance with the study regulations. In one semester, students may enrol in courses carrying a total of up to 37 ECTS credits.
Upon completion of the programme, graduates acquire the academic title Doctor of Dental Medicine.
The programme also provides a strong foundation for further professional and academic development, including second-cycle professional studies for Doctors of Dental Medicine, master’s studies, third-cycle doctoral studies, and healthcare specializations regulated by the Law on Health Care.
